Shade Tobacco in the Connecticut Valley In-Person
As a 14-year-old in Windsor, Duane Adams earned 61 cents an hour working in tobacco fields. In the army and college, he had difficulty convincing people tobacco was grown in the CT River Valley. Now a retired history teacher and CT Valley Tobacco Museum board member, Adams will talk about the history of shade tobacco and why it is still grown in the CT River Valley, from south of Middletown, CT and north to southern Vermont, although farms are quickly disappearing from the landscape. Adams will bring a number of props, including stone tools used by Native Americans and tobacco seeds to show the way the plants are grown. Register for a reminder. For adults.
